Math
The Colonial School District’s suggested math curriculum is called TERC Investigations in Number, Data and Space. It is presented through a series of teacher books, one for each unit of study. This program does not use a traditional workbook and textbook. This approach will help your child get used to interpreting and solving problems that take considerable time, thought and discussion.
While solving these problems, your child will be using materials such as interlocking cubes, money, and calculators. S/he will be writing, drawing and talking about how to think through a problem.
Homework may look different since it encourages students to use real objects in the problem solving. Sometimes your child will need your participation in playing a game or gathering data.
